Three Bread Recipes For Your Bread Maker

The following recipes below are for a bread maker but can also be done in the conventional way. Each recipe will make one and a half pounds.
Keep in mind that there are many different recipes out there and these three that I am sharing are what I would consider fun or better yet dessert types.
My first recipe is for whole wheat carrot bread. And again, these ingredient measurements will make one and a half pounds.
Whole wheat carrot bread:
Oil- two tablespoons
Honey- two tablespoons
Cottage cheese- 3/4 cup
Grated carrots- 1 cup
Dill weed- 1 1/2 teaspoons
Dry Mustard- 1/2 teaspoon
Orange zest- 1 teaspoon
Salt- 1 teaspoon
Whole wheat flour- 2/3 cup
Bread flour- 1 1/3 cup
Dry yeast- 1 1/2 teaspoon
For a bread maker you would put the setting on the basic bread cycle.
Chocolate Bread:
Water- 1 1/8 cup
White bread flour- 3 cups
Sugar- 1/4 cup
Salt- 1 1/2 teaspoons
Chocolate chips- 1/2 cups
Vanilla- 3/4 teaspoon
Large egg- 1
Cocoa powder- 1/2 cup
Yeast (fast rise)- 1 1/2 teaspoons
Or dry yeast- 1 1/2 teaspoons
The recommended cycle for chocolate bread on your maker would be sweet bread cycle or something similar because of course not all makers use the same terminology.
Also, if for any reason you are wondering why I am not giving the amount of time to cook the bread its because the bread maker is programmed to determine the cooking time.
Raisin Bread:
Water- 1 cup
Oil- 3 table spoons
Sugar - 1/4 cup
Salt- 1 1/8 tea spoons
Cinnamon- 3/4 teaspoon
Bread Flour- 3 cups
Raisins- 1/2 cup
Dry yeast- 1 1/8 teaspoon
The recommended cycle for raisin bread is the sweet bread cycle.
So there are three recipes that I know you will enjoy and if you do not currently have a bread maker you should consider getting one because they are so simple to use. The maker basically does all the work for you.
The only thing you would need to do is put the ingredients into the bread pan, choose your cycle and than press start. Approximately three hours later you will have a fresh loaf of bread and your house will fill up with the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread!
Best of luck with the recipes. I know they will turn out fine and taste delicious.

Save Money And Time With A Bread Maker

A loaf of bread depending on what brand and variety you buy can run anywhere from two dollars to five dollars.
If you were to make your own bread you would only need to buy the simple ingredients that go into making a basic bread.
Those simple ingredients would include bread, flour and yeast. The other ingredients are regular every day household items that you more than likely have in your house on an every day basis. Such as water or milk, eggs, butter or margarine salt and sugar.
And by the way sugar is not a necessary ingredient for bread making especially if you are using a bread machine.
There are many bread makers to choose from so if you want to save some money at the grocery store but are not much of a baker than a bread maker would be an ideal purchase for you.
The bread making products you can buy are designed to make one and a half to two pound loaves which is plenty of bread to get you through a week.
A basic bread recipe for a one and a half pound loaf consists of the following ingredients.
1 cup of milk
2 large eggs
1.5 tablespoons butter or margarine
1.5 teaspoon of salt
3 cups of bread flour
2 1/4 tablespoon of sugar
1 teaspoon dry yeast
Simply take three to five minutes to combine these ingredients into the bread pan of the bread maker and you are good to go. Your new kitchen gadget will spend approximately three hours doing the rest of the work for you.
And of course when its done your home will be filled with the wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread.
Not only do you save time and money making your own bread but you are also making a very healthy choice.
Have you ever read what goes into the bread that you buy in a supermarket? The next time you are in the bread aisle take a look at the ingredients in any loaf of bread on the shelf and your jaw will drop.
The amount of additives and preservatives is mind boggling.
Now back to the bread maker...
You are not limited to just basic bread, there are many varieties of bread you can make just by following the simple instructions in any bread cook book or any old recipe you can find on the internet.
Most if not all of these products list a good number of bread recipes in the owners manual.
French bread, raisin bread, sandwich bread, and chocolate bread just to name a few.
They are fun investments and will eventually pay for themselves. And they are great from a time standpoint as well.
Again, the prep time to make bread in a bread maker is three to five minutes.
This is definitely something to consider and if you are interested in buying one make sure you do your homework. There are plenty out there and reading on line customer reviews is very helpful in making a decision. It worked for me.

5 Reasons to Make Bread With a Bread Maker

There are many reasons to go out and get a bread maker to make your bread with but I am only going to list five of them for starters.
The first reason and in my opinion the most important for making your own bread is because its much healthier than buying the store brand bread with all the added preservatives.
For example I'm going to list all the ingredients found in a loaf of bread that I have pulled from my pantry that I recently purchased at the grocery store. And it is wheat bread I might add. see below.
Whole wheat flour, water, high fructose corn syrup, wheat gluten, yeast, soybean oil, wheat bran salt, enrichment (calcium sulfate, vitamin e acetate, vitamin a palmitate, vitamin 3d) mono-and diglycerides, calcium propionate, (preservative), datem, soy lecithin, citric acid, grain vinegar, potassium iodate, ethoxalated mono-and diglycerides, calcium phosphate.
I mean what is this stuff? I understand the flour and the yeast but the other stuff? C'mon.
Now I will go and grab the recipe I use to make my own bread. see ingredients below.
Milk, eggs, butter, flour, salt and yeast. Thats it!
The recipe does call for sugar but I leave that out. you really don't need it especially if you are using a bread machine and are buying the bread ingredients advertised as "great for bread maker."
Reason number two. Its so easy! It only takes five minutes to prepare at the most.
Take the ingredients I mentioned above in the specified measurements in whatever recipe you are using and dump them in the bread pan than turn on your bread maker and your work is done.
Three hours later you have warm fresh bread and your house smells wonderful!
Reason number three: Its fun.
Making bread can be a lot of fun for the whole family. There are thousands of bread cook books out there that you can get your hands on for making different varieties of bread. In my house we make basic egg bread, white bread, wheat bread, corn bread, etc.
Everyone in my family has their favorite bread and again it is so easy to do.
The fourth reason is that you will save money.
For the price of two loaves of bread (depending on the brand) you can buy enough bread ingredients to make six loaves or more so keep this in mind if you are considering buying a bread maker. You can buy a really good one for under sixty dollars and it no time it will pay for itself.
Reason number five. You can experiment with cakes and jams.
Not only do bread makers make bread but most come with a setting for cakes and jams. I have not done anything with the cakes but I have made the jam and it tastes great. And the prep time is just as short and simple as the bread making.
So there you have it. Five reasons to make bread with a bread maker!

An Introduction to Bread Ingredients

Bread Flour
Bread flour has a high content of gluten so sometimes you may see this advertised as high gluten flour. High Gluten flour contains high protein and is usually a good flour for bread makers.
It makes the bread very elastic and will keep the bread from sinking or caving in after it has risen.
This flour is good for making a large size loaf of bread with a really good inner fiber because of the high gluten content.
It may sound obvious but there is not a more important ingredient when it comes to making bread.
Plain Flour
Plain flour is made by mixing well chosen soft and hard wheat and is best for making bread and cakes.
Whole Wheat Flour
Whole wheat flour is made by grinding whole wheat. It contains the skin of wheat and it is heavier and more nutritious than common flour. Bread made by whole wheat flour is usually small in size. Most recipes for wheat bread will combine the whole wheat flour and bread flour in order to achieve the best results.
Black Wheat Flour
Black wheat flour also known as "rough flour" is a high fiber flour that is very similar to whole wheat flour. To obtain a large size after rising it needs to be used in combination with a high proportion of bread flour.
Cake Powder
Cake powder is made by grinding soft wheat or low protein wheat which is used for baking cakes.
While most flours seem to be very much alike it comes down to the yeast performance in combination with the flour and the way in which it is absorbed.
The area or region in which the ingredient is grown, stored and ground also plays a role in the performance of the wheat.
It never hurts to try a few different brands of flour to get an idea of what works best for you as well as tastes the best.
Corn Flour and Oatmeal Flour
Corn flour and oatmeal flour are made by grinding corn and oatmeal respectively. They are both the additive ingredient of making rough bread which is used for enhancing the flavor and the texture of the bread.
Sugar
Sugar is very important to the mix for adding taste and color. (In my opinion I do not think sugar is necessary.) I have made many a loaf without sugar and I can not tell the difference in taste or color.
Sugar does help to nourish the yeast to make a better rising bread.
If you are using a bread maker you may want to look for the ingredients in your super market that say "great for bread makers." I seem to believe these ingredients that come advertised for the bread makers are of a different quality than those prepared for traditional baking.
Yeast
Yeast breaks down and than produces carbon dioxide which makes the bread expand and the inner fiber soft. Yeast also relies on sugar and flour as a source of nourishment.
Yeast also must be stored at a cool temperature so the refrigerator is an ideal spot for it.
Salt
Salt is necessary to improve bread flavor and the color of the crust. Salt is not a necessary ingredient so feel free to omit it all together. Your bread would actually be larger without the salt also.
Egg
Eggs will improve the texture of your bread as well as add nourishment and make it larger in size.
Grease, Butter and Vegetable Oil
Grease can make the bread soft and delay its storage life. Butter should be melted or chopped into small pieces before use.
Baking Powder
Baking powder is used mainly to make bread rise very fast. It will also bubble or soften the texture of the bread.
Baking Soda
Same principle as above and the two can be used in combination with one another.
Water
Water is a very essential ingredient to making bread so never leave it out of your recipe.

In making beer bread, you can use dark or stout beer; this will give the bread a dark brown colour. You can also use spiced or flavoured beer; the bread will have the similar taste but less intense than plain beer. When it comes to flavouring for the bread, you can add dill, cheddar, garlic and feta. These will definitely make the bread delectable and savoury.

What To Look For in a Bread Maker

When considering a bread machine there are a few things to look for but most importantly is the quality. A great way to determine quality is through on line reviews which can be found on just about any on line retailer that sells them. Or simply do a search on bread maker reviews.
When reading the reviews look for the consumer experience in working with the bread maker. At the end of the day the product should be doing all the work and not you. otherwise in does not make any sense to buy the product to begin with.
If the product was bought on line than make sure the consumer was happy with the delivery and that it was on time and that there was no damage once it arrived.
A bread maker should come with all the bells and whistles such as a measuring cup, a measuring spoon, a kneading blade and a hook for removing the bread from the pan.
I'm sure most people have these household items around their house but its nice to have all the moving parts in one bread making package that can fit neatly inside the housing unit when not in use.
You would be amazed at the amount of negative reviews on the user manual alone and how non reader friendly it can be. Which brings us to customer service and how available and friendly are they should the need to call them occur if there is a problem with your maker.
All this information can be found in the user reviews. Read the one star reviews as well as the five star reviews. You want your experience with your bread maker of choice to be as painless as possible.
Bread variety is another component you would want to look for in your final choice. If your machine simply makes one type of bread, than whats the point of buying a bread maker. You could do this yourself with some flour and a rolling pin.
Look for the machines that offer no less than ten varieties of bread making. For those of you that only want to make the one bread variety that is perfectly fine but my point is you may as well have some fun with it. It never hurts to throw some raisin or french bread into the mix every now and than.
Timers are important also if you want to wake up in the morning to the wonderful aroma of baking bread. Simply put the ingredients in the maker and set the timer for whatever time suits you to start kneading and baking.
Keep in mind that dry milk may need to be substituted for regular milk if your using the timer and your recipe calls for milk.
Its like anything else you are buying, its important to do your homework and research before making a purchase and as you know it can save much time and aggravation when you get the best functioning product for your needs and at a price that works for you.
